Family Camp 2010 is Coming!
Family Camp is an opportunity for all Cub Scouts and their families to enjoy an outdoor camping experience together in a non‐challenging, low‐stress environment. For many young scouts & their families, this may be the first time they have ever slept outdoors or set up a tent. Family Camp is an easy and safe way to learn about outdoor adventure. Most of all, we want to have fun!
Activities include boating, kayaks, swimming, horseshoes, volleyball, crafts, marine museum, hands‐on aquarium exhibits, and more (including homegrown entertainment). There will be a series of scheduled events and times, along with free time so that families can adjust their participation according to their own needs.
Dates: Starts on Friday, June 18, 2010, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm check‐in . Ends on Sunday, June 20, 2010, 12:00 noon check‐out
Location: Cabrillo Beach Campground, San Pedro, CA. This is a BSA operated facility that is used by many youth groups from throughout Southern California. This is a relatively small campground close to an urban environment, but it offers some unique features not found at other scout camps. It is well suited for the many younger scouts that we currently have in Pack 811. Camp facilities include mild beach, swimming pool, athletic courts, dining hall & food service, indoor restrooms, outdoor showers,
crafts rooms, scout shop, and outdoor amphitheater.
Food: All meals will be provided by the camp, except for Friday evening meal. Campers are welcome to bring their own between‐meal snacks if desired.
Cost: $55 per camper (scouts and family members) age 6 and older, $30 per camper age 5 and under. There may be some small added costs for some of the crafts, and parents should also anticipate that there will be some assorted parent volunteer task requests to assist the leaders in keeping a large group of kids organized for two days & nights.
What to bring: The basics include tent, sleeping bags, Class A scout uniform, Class B Scout uniform, swimsuit & towel, other casual clothes as needed, toiletries. A more complete checklist will be provided at a later date.
Who is eligible to attend: All scout members of Pack 811 may attend. Each scout must have at least one parent or legal guardian with them in camp. Scouts must all sleep in tents with their parent or guardian – no sleepovers with their buddies. Immediate family members of the scouts may also attend, but not extended family members and other friends.
How to sign up: Download the reservation form here. Sign up and make payment on or before the April 18 Pack Meeting. Checks should be made payable to “Pack 811”. Reservation requests can be forwarded to Mike Glasgow, Mark Josten or your Den Leader.
Tigers Look Ahead to April
April is “Jungle Safari” month for the Tiger Den. We will start off with the scavenger hunt with the ferocious animals at the Santa Ana Zoo this Saturday, April 3rd at 9:15. Please be sure to get permissions slips to Naila Currie if your Tiger is going with another parent.
Easter vacation is a great time to catch up on the Rosary Patches. We will be finishing up the Sorrowful Mysteries and starting the Glorious Mysteries at our next den meeting. check the Parent Resource Page to download the patch summaries and coloring pages.
Our next den meeting will be on Sunday, April 11th at 11am. Check out the full agenda via the Tiger Den Page. Finally, don’t forget about the pack fishing trip on Saturday, April 24th.
If you haven’t visited the Photo Albums recently, you’ll find new pictures from our den hike as well as scout day at SAM (under Pack events).
Thank you to the super parents who have already signed up to help the den for the next year. For those who haven’t yet, you can now sign up directly on the website. Click on the “Parent Sign-Ups” button on the Tiger Den Page to complete your entry (note you must log in to access this page).
Wishing everyone a very blessed Easter!
Scout-O-Rama Ticket Sales at Ralph’s was Very Successful
Thank you to again to everyone in the pack who helped sell Scout-O-Rama tickets at Ralph’s grocery store today and last Saturday. We sold 86 tickets today, and combined with the 91 tickets sold last week, we have sold a total of 177 tickets at Ralph’s. For both weekends, our pack had 25 scouts participate, and also a dozen parents help out.
All of you cubs should be very proud of yourselves for helping raise money for our upcoming service project. Thank you also to the parents who helped the boys today with their sales. We also have several scouts selling tickets on their own, and this will help us even more. If any other scout desires to sell tickets on their own, please contact your Scout-O-Rama chair to make it happen.

Tigers Witness USS Dewey Commissioning
The Tiger Den and their guests witnessed the commissioning of the Navy’s newest warship in Seal Beach on March 6. The USS DEWEY DDG 105 is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. Guests listened to a variety of dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen. After the commissioning, the Tigers walked the narrow hallways of the ship and saw the on-board medical clinic, mess hall, and command center. See the Tiger Albums for pictures of the outing.

Pack 811 Goes to the Olympics!
Well, maybe our Cub Scouts didn’t make it to Vancouver, but thanks to Tiger Scout Jackson’s aunt who brought her nephew’s Class-B shirt with her to the games, our pack was represented there. Check out these pictures of a Pack 811 shirt’s adventures in Canada!

Webelos Den Hike – Sunday, Feb 28th
The Cobra Den will have a den hike on Sunday, February 28th in the Aliso & Woods Canyons Wilderness Park near the Laguna Coast. We will be hiking to “dripping cave” and “cave rock”. The hike is 4.5 miles round-trip with only a few hundred feet of elevation gain/loss. Bring a snack so we can rest at dripping cave and enjoy some food before heading back. Note: If it rains that day or within 2 days prior, we will need to reschedule the hike as the trails are closed to prevent erosion.
Meet at the school lunch benches at 1pm that day. We will caravan to the parking location. Since parking is $3 per vehicle, we should carpool if possible. I expect us to return to the school by 5pm. Your family is welcome to join us.
A permission slip that you can find HERE will need to be filled out and returned to Cyndi or myself on, or by, the 28th. Also, please RSVP with how many are going. If you are dropping your son off with us and not going to hike with the group, please let me know this so I can arrange rides in the cars.
Wear comfortable tennis shoes, the scout uniform green T-shirt, and bring either a hat or sunscreen for the trail. Also, bring some water and a snack in a day pack. Lastly, bring the pocket knife and whittling chip card because we can.
Directions to trailhead:
Located in South Orange County, take the 5 frwy. to Alicia Parkway, head toward the ocean approximately 5 miles. The park entrance is located 100 yards south of Aliso Creek Road off Alicia Parkway in the City of Laguna Niguel.

Let’s go fishing!
On Saturday, April 24 from 8-10 am we will be fishing at the Huckleberry Pond at the Santa Ana River Lakes in Anaheim.
Scout-O-Rama Ticket Sales coming up in March
Commissions from this sale go to support the activities, advancements and programs of local units and the Orange County Council, BSA. Our pack proceeds from the ticket sales (25%) help fund our pack program in general. Last year, the pack made $517 from ticket sales.
We will sell ticket books for two days only. Individual scout ticket sales are completely optional.
Each scout will need to support one 2-hour shift selling tickets in front of Ralph’s. The shifts on both Saturdays will be from 10am to 12 noon, and from 12 to 2 pm. Each shift needs to be covered by at least 8 scouts and two adults, so we will need some parent volunteers also. At the Blue & Gold banquet, I will have a sign up sheet and start reserving time slots for sales.
Scout-O-Rama Individual Ticket Sales
If your son is interested in selling individual tickets, please contact Mike Glasgow to obtain tickets. There are some nice prizes offered by the Orange County Council for ticket sales. Your son will receive a flyer in the mail detailing the prizes. Contact me for more information. Ticket money is due back to me by May 1st.
Scout-O-Rama – May15th
This year’s Scout-O-Rama will be held at Oak Canyon Park on Saturday, May 15th, between the hours of 9 AM and 4PM. This is a very fun event that everyone in the family can enjoy and participate in. I strongly recommend going to Scout-O-Rama with either your den, or as a family. If you are interested ingoing, you can purchase your admission ticket (good for entire family) when we sell them at Ralph’s.
What is Scout-O-Rama you may ask? Scout-O-Rama is the annual trade show of Scouting in Orange County that is attended by over 30,000 people. Scouts and their families enjoy a fun-filled day of exhibits, competitions, skits and displays. Some popular events from recent years include Dutch-oven cooking demonstrations, canoe races, water rocket launches and bicycle shows. Local packs, troops, teams and crews participate in the Scout-O-Rama event displaying a booth or giving service hours. Website: http://www.ocbsa.org/site/c.khKQIWPBIoE/b.3986105/k.1BA6/ScoutORama.htm

The Wolves are Cookin!
Sunday, March 7th is our next outing for the Wolf Den. We will be meeting at the Lising Home after mass (about 11:15) and building cardboard ovens and grilling our own burgers. This is an idea that was shown at the leadership conference and WOW… are we excited to try this. We will also be making a cake in a dutch oven over real coals…. So the Brea Fire Dept will be on standby… hahaha just kidding!
Check out the plan here: http://cubpack811.org/library/Dens/Wolves/BoxOvenCooking.pdf
After lunch we will be playing video games and earning a belt loop for it…
We are asking for a $ 5.00 per scout donation for supplies and food. This can be paid that day.
See you then!
Roz and Christian
