The Webelos I Blackhawk Patrol spend Saturday morning in Kayaks near the Newport Sea Base. The Scouts paddled through the bay and ended up stopping for a swim at a beach. Many of the Scouts allowed their Dad to have a free ride in the back of the kayak, while others got their Dad or Mom to paddle in sync with them. All the boys arrived back safely, and only a few adults were seen with crooked backs when they returned. After drying off, the Scouts voted on their patrol name, with the “Blackhawk Patrol” narrowly beating out the “Sizzling Bacon Patrol” as the name of choice. The patrol also elected their first Denner – Patrol leader : Mitchel D., and assistant Joshua W. It was a great first outing for the new Webelos, with many great adventures ahead. Pictures of the event can be found in our Photo Albums.

Bears Take Over Newport Harbor
The Mighty Bear Den boarded kayaks in Newport Harbor last weekend, maneuvering their small crafts around sailboats, yachts, and other vessels in the harbor. Some Bears had to row with their parent as dead weight behind them. One parent and scout team even demonstrated a man-over-board drill. A great time was had by all. Check out the photos below and more in the photo albums.
Webelos II Kayak the Upper Newport Bay
The Webelos 2 Cobras den headed south today to the Newport Aquatic Center and took a two hour kayaking tour of the upper Newport Bay with a naturalist. The naturalist guided us up the bay into the estuary, and educated all of us on the aquatic and bird life in the bay. We saw great blue herons, skimmers, snowy egrets, and may other birds. It was an exciting adventure with the bonus of avoiding the scorching heat in Brea that morning. In addition to the tour, Casey J. and Kalel G. earned their Naturalist activity pin. Pictures of the outing are in the den 1 photo albums.
