The Webelos 2 Cobras den visited the Griffith Observatory on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The hike to the Hollywood sign was cancelled due to rain, but everyone enjoyed the wet day at the observatory. The den toured the exhibits inside the observatory and watched a cosmology show in the planetarium. See the den photo album for photos.

Webelos II Know How to Fix Things
The Webelos 2 Cobras den spent Sunday afternoon earning their Handyman activity pin. The scouts (1) learned how to and demonstrated checking the oil and tire pressure on a car, (2)helped change a tire on a car, (3) learned and showed how to maintain and fix their own bikes, and (4) demonstrated how to change a light bulb. The scouts all did very good work in showing their handyman skills. Thanks go to parents John and Anthony for running the bike and car repair stations. Also, thanks go to Carolyn for making a delicious snack for the den.
Webelos II Trek Through Chino Hills State Park
The Webelos 2 Cobras den took a bike trek through Chino Hills State Park today. They started at the West end of the park and rode up Telegraph Canyon trail to the middle of the park before heading back. The seven scouts that participated rode for a total distance of 10 miles. The den saw some birds, but no other wildlife. The scouts did have some fun riding through a muddy puddle on the way back to the cars. Pictures of the outing are in the den 1 photo albums.
Webelos II See Play and Earn Showman Pin
The Webelos 2 Cobras den spent the month of October finishing the Showman activity pin that we started in September. A night of music was enjoyed by all at the October den meeting. On Saturday, Oct. 16th, the den went to Fullerton College and was thrilled and chilled by a dramatic performance of the play ‘Frankenstein.’
Webelos II Kayak the Upper Newport Bay
The Webelos 2 Cobras den headed south today to the Newport Aquatic Center and took a two hour kayaking tour of the upper Newport Bay with a naturalist. The naturalist guided us up the bay into the estuary, and educated all of us on the aquatic and bird life in the bay. We saw great blue herons, skimmers, snowy egrets, and may other birds. It was an exciting adventure with the bonus of avoiding the scorching heat in Brea that morning. In addition to the tour, Casey J. and Kalel G. earned their Naturalist activity pin. Pictures of the outing are in the den 1 photo albums.
Webelos Are Super Sportsmen
The Webelos will be completing the Sportsman activity badge this Sunday 4/25 and earning the basketball and marbles sports belt loops. They will also earn the chess beltloop as part of the scholar activity badge.
Scout-O-Rama Ticket Sales at Ralph’s was Very Successful
Thank you to again to everyone in the pack who helped sell Scout-O-Rama tickets at Ralph’s grocery store today and last Saturday. We sold 86 tickets today, and combined with the 91 tickets sold last week, we have sold a total of 177 tickets at Ralph’s. For both weekends, our pack had 25 scouts participate, and also a dozen parents help out.
All of you cubs should be very proud of yourselves for helping raise money for our upcoming service project. Thank you also to the parents who helped the boys today with their sales. We also have several scouts selling tickets on their own, and this will help us even more. If any other scout desires to sell tickets on their own, please contact your Scout-O-Rama chair to make it happen.

Webelos Den Hike – Sunday, Feb 28th
The Cobra Den will have a den hike on Sunday, February 28th in the Aliso & Woods Canyons Wilderness Park near the Laguna Coast. We will be hiking to “dripping cave” and “cave rock”. The hike is 4.5 miles round-trip with only a few hundred feet of elevation gain/loss. Bring a snack so we can rest at dripping cave and enjoy some food before heading back. Note: If it rains that day or within 2 days prior, we will need to reschedule the hike as the trails are closed to prevent erosion.
Meet at the school lunch benches at 1pm that day. We will caravan to the parking location. Since parking is $3 per vehicle, we should carpool if possible. I expect us to return to the school by 5pm. Your family is welcome to join us.
A permission slip that you can find HERE will need to be filled out and returned to Cyndi or myself on, or by, the 28th. Also, please RSVP with how many are going. If you are dropping your son off with us and not going to hike with the group, please let me know this so I can arrange rides in the cars.
Wear comfortable tennis shoes, the scout uniform green T-shirt, and bring either a hat or sunscreen for the trail. Also, bring some water and a snack in a day pack. Lastly, bring the pocket knife and whittling chip card because we can.
Directions to trailhead:
Located in South Orange County, take the 5 frwy. to Alicia Parkway, head toward the ocean approximately 5 miles. The park entrance is located 100 yards south of Aliso Creek Road off Alicia Parkway in the City of Laguna Niguel.

Scout-O-Rama Ticket Sales coming up in March
Commissions from this sale go to support the activities, advancements and programs of local units and the Orange County Council, BSA. Our pack proceeds from the ticket sales (25%) help fund our pack program in general. Last year, the pack made $517 from ticket sales.
We will sell ticket books for two days only. Individual scout ticket sales are completely optional.
Each scout will need to support one 2-hour shift selling tickets in front of Ralph’s. The shifts on both Saturdays will be from 10am to 12 noon, and from 12 to 2 pm. Each shift needs to be covered by at least 8 scouts and two adults, so we will need some parent volunteers also. At the Blue & Gold banquet, I will have a sign up sheet and start reserving time slots for sales.
Scout-O-Rama Individual Ticket Sales
If your son is interested in selling individual tickets, please contact Mike Glasgow to obtain tickets. There are some nice prizes offered by the Orange County Council for ticket sales. Your son will receive a flyer in the mail detailing the prizes. Contact me for more information. Ticket money is due back to me by May 1st.
Scout-O-Rama – May15th
This year’s Scout-O-Rama will be held at Oak Canyon Park on Saturday, May 15th, between the hours of 9 AM and 4PM. This is a very fun event that everyone in the family can enjoy and participate in. I strongly recommend going to Scout-O-Rama with either your den, or as a family. If you are interested ingoing, you can purchase your admission ticket (good for entire family) when we sell them at Ralph’s.
What is Scout-O-Rama you may ask? Scout-O-Rama is the annual trade show of Scouting in Orange County that is attended by over 30,000 people. Scouts and their families enjoy a fun-filled day of exhibits, competitions, skits and displays. Some popular events from recent years include Dutch-oven cooking demonstrations, canoe races, water rocket launches and bicycle shows. Local packs, troops, teams and crews participate in the Scout-O-Rama event displaying a booth or giving service hours. Website: http://www.ocbsa.org/site/c.khKQIWPBIoE/b.3986105/k.1BA6/ScoutORama.htm
