Sign Up Now for Camp Cherry Valley

Attention Bear & Webelos Families – It’s time to sign up for Camp Cherry Valley this summer!

The Webelos Resident Camp runs Thursday, August 13th through Sunday, August 16th.  The theme this year will be “Knights of the Campfire,” meaning activities and campfires will feature themes of medieval knighthood.   Scouts, adults, and staff wear costumes with that theme for campfires.  Camp Cherry Valley is well-known for its location on Catalina Island, which includes access to the ocean, traditional facilities, good food, and the best staff of any Webelos resident camp.  Activities include snorkeling, fishing, archery, BB guns, kayaking, hiking, and a marine lab.  Travel to and from the camp is via ferry between Long Beach and Two Harbors.  Each Scout and a parent sleep in a two-man canvas tent which are provided.  Camp Cherry Valley is a true Boy Scout camp that opens its doors to Webelos scouts for a couple sessions each year. Photos from previous years are posted in our Photo Albums, a video can be see HERE, and further details are available in the Leader Guide.

If we have enough boys sign up, we will have our own patrol and own campsite.   Reservations for the camp opened in January, and they will fill up very soon.   Please SIGN UP by May 24 if your son will attend.  I will make a group reservation the next day and collect money by the June 10th campfire.  The total cost (including the boat trip and all meals) is $235 per Cub Scout, and $175 per adult.  Checks should be made to “Pack 811”.   No siblings are allowed, and adults are optional.

A few final thoughts.  This camp is optional.  Summer, and August in particular, can be a busy time.  However, Cherry Valley is a memorable experience for Scouts and parents alike.  It will truly prepare your son for what lays ahead in Boy Scouts. Please let me know if your Scout can attend.  If you cannot commit now, you have the option of making your own reservations, but there is no guarantee there will be space.  As a result, we encourage an early group reservation as the best way to guarantee spots and keep everyone together. If you have any questions, many of the Webelos dads can give you the scoop.

Yours in Scouting,

Jim

Webelos Resident Camp Signups

Good Afternoon Bears and Webelos Scouts,

As we previously communicated, we have two options for Webelos Resident Camp this summer.  It is now time to sign up to reserve your spot!  A 50% deposit is required in order to reserve the spot, and spots are filling up quick!  We will be collecting payments at the Pack Meeting next Sunday.   Note that it is highly recommended, but not required, for a parent to attend the camp with their Scout.  It they choose not to attend, then they must find another adult who will agree to be responsible for their son during the event.  No siblings are allowed.

3fallslogoOption 1:  Camp 3 Falls on June 29 – July 2.  Cost is $195 per scout, and $105 per parent. More information can be found HERE.  Vicky Ladjevic will be coordinating this event for us this year.  Please confirm directly with her (vladjevic818@gmail.com) to hold your spot, and give her a check (made out to Ventura County Council, BSA) for at least 50% of the total amount due no later than this coming Sunday, April 27th.

Option 2:  Camp Cherry Valley on August 10 – 13.  Cost is $235 per scout, and $175 per parent.  A video about the camp can be found HERE.  I (Jim Remley) will be coordinating this event.  Please confirm your spot with me, and get me a check (made out to San Gabriel Valley Council, BSA) for 50% of the total amount due no later than Sunday.

Again, this is a very memorable outing that your Scout will likely remember as the highlight of his Cub Scouting years.  Both of these camps are real “Boy Scout” camps that open their doors to Webelos for a few weeks in the year.  Feel free to contact Vicki or myself if you have any questions.

Yours in Scouting,

Jim Remley

Camp Cherry Valley Deposits Due

Hi there Bears and Webelos…

Its time to get our reservation sent in for our camp Aug 21-24… It will be a busy month in August with Family Camp earlier that month… so I am here to help coordinate the sending in of deposits ONLY for Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island.

I spoke with Maggie at the San Gabriel Council today for an update on how many spots were left for us to sign up… she said that we are in great shape if we get the Deposits ( 25%) to her by Feb 1st. Payments in full are also welcomed.

So… if you are still interested in going… please get the check ready payable to the San Gabriel Council and I can get it from you either this weekend at Pinewood Derby or during the week next week. I will cut off accepting $$ on Jan 30th at Catholic School’s open house.

If you are still up in the air, you are more than welcome to wait but you will have to coordinate with Maggie for a spot, etc. just as an fyi… the spots are usually sold out by the end of Feb.

This camp is a super busy, all day fun filled camp.. the cost covers the ride over and back on

the boat, food, a tent is provided for you and they do a SUPER great job at food and providing FUN. In addition, those who go must take a swim test ( Adults also) and the 3 days usually fulfills half of the requirements of the 18 months of Webelos… that in itself is a WIN WIN!

Usually one scout and one parent go.. the tents are- 2 man- and in the past there has been a nightly contest for the loudest snorers…

So…. anyone interested???
